How to use Unrip

Unrip Written Instructions

1. Before using Unrip, make sure you wash the latex clothing to remove any dirt, shine, lubricants, or anything else that might stop the patch from sticking. Use dish soap and water to scrub the clothing thoroughly. When you're done cleaning, the repair spot should have a matte finish. The area of use must be clean and dry before using Unrip.

*Tip* Solvents such as heptane or isopropyl alcohol can be used to deep clean the repair area and remove shining products or silicone lubricant. We also recommend using a strong degreaser dish soap such as Dawn.

2. Using the included primer applicator, apply a thin layer of primer to the repair area. To activate the primer in the pen, squeeze firmly to break the glass ampule to release the primer. Unrip repair kits include 5 primer pens.

*Tip* For larger rips (bigger than 5 inches), multiple primer pens may be necessary to cover the repair area.

3. Once you've applied primer to the area requiring repair, wait 5 minutes for the primer to dry.

4. After waiting 5 minutes, measure the Unrip patch over the repair area. Ensure the rip is fully covered with patch and provide at least an inch of additional patch length on each end of the rip. Use scissors to cut the patch to a desired size.

5. (Optional) Once you've cut the patch to the right size, it's a good idea to round off the corners. Pointed corners tend to snag on skin or clothes, which can cause the patch to be peeled off. Rounding the corners makes the repair stronger.

6. Peel the release liner off the back of the patch to expose the glue.

7. Press the patch onto the spot you want to fix. If you want to make sure it stays in place, you can use a book, soda can, or rolling pin to apply a little extra pressure.

8. Wait at least 1 hour for the patch to bond before wearing the latex. Wait at least 48 hours before applying shining or lubricant products to the repair area.

TIPS

  • The area of use must be clean and dry before using Unrip.

  • Rips longer than four inches may require that a repair patch is placed on both the front and back of the clothing. This allows for extra reinforcement of large or high stress repair areas.

  • We suggest adding at least an inch of extra Unrip patch on both ends of the repair area. This will ensure that any tears are secured and won't cause further widening.

  • Wait at least 48 hours after repairing a tear with Unrip before exposing the patch to washings, lubricants or shining products. This allows the glue to fully adhere to surface of the latex and avoids causing damage to the patch.

  • If ripples or air bubbles are present in a newly applied patch, these should disappear in 24 to 48 hours. Larger air bubbles may need to be pressed out using a roller.
